About The Painting
I was enjoying the morning painting at the harbor on the island of Lanai. The boats were rendered in a realistic manner but I was entranced with the gentle motion of the harbors waters against the boats so I began to paint with an emphasis on the abstract pattern of lines reflecting in the water's surface. Immediately, a memory of an Egon Schiele painting came over me and I realized that I was expressing the same idea as when he painted his famous Port of Trieste. A viewer said, "The way you balance chaos and order in your painting is fascinating, it's a beautiful harmony of opposites".
